Product image too small for marketplace upload
If a marketplace rejects an image as too small, do not upscale a thumbnail. Re-export from the master at the required longest side, then compress.
Steps
-
Read the minimum in the error
Note pixels on the longest side and any square requirement. Do not guess from an old blog post.
-
Open the master, not the last upload
If the master is already smaller than the minimum, you need a new photo or render.
-
Resize down to the slot, never up from a thumb
Use Image Resizer when the master is larger than needed. Export the marketplace aspect.
-
Compress and re-upload
Use Image Compressor on the sized file. Check zoom on a phone after Seller Central processes the image.
Upscaling does not add detail
Stretching a 400 px JPEG to 1600 px makes Amazon’s zoom look muddy. Marketplaces want real pixels from the camera or a high-res render. CrossKit Image Resizer can downscale; it cannot invent missing detail.
Find the master
Look for the photographer’s original, a PNG from design, or a last export larger than the reject. Catalog folders often keep only compressed uploads. Restore from backup if needed.
Match the slot
Main images are often square and large. Infographics may use a different ratio. Resize the longest side to the current help-page minimum or a bit above, then compress so bytes do not fail next.
White background and zoom
A small image on a huge white canvas still fails minimum product pixels. Padding is not resolution. Crop to the product, then size.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can AI upscale save a tiny JPEG?
It may look acceptable on a grid and fail on zoom or policy. Prefer a real master.
Shopify vs Amazon minimums
They differ. Size for the strictest destination if you share one asset, or export per channel.
Is CrossKit an official imaging lab?
No. It is a browser toolkit. Live pixel rules stay on each marketplace help page.
