What is a marketplace fee?
A marketplace fee is money a platform charges to list, sell, fulfill or collect payment on an order.
Common fee types
Referral or commission is usually a percent of the selling price. Fulfillment (FBA, 3PL, or platform logistics) is often a pick-pack-ship amount by size. Payment processing appears on Shopify and some marketplaces. Storage, closing fees and funded coupons are easy to forget. None of these is the factory quote.
Fees change by category and time
A clothing referral rate is not a electronics rate. Size-tier changes move FBA. Regional TikTok Shop take rates differ. Last year’s screenshot is not a model. CrossKit Profit Calculator lets you type current quotes; it does not pull live official fees and is not an Amazon partner calculator.
How fees enter profit
Unit profit subtracts fees after price and landed cost. If you hide ads and inbound, the leftover looks healthier than the bank. Fee-only “profit” is a fulfillment quote, not a business result. Recalculate when you change marketplace, packaging or promotions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is shipping I absorb a marketplace fee?
It is a selling cost. Some platforms bundle it into fulfillment; on Shopify you may absorb postage yourself. Enter it as its own line so the SKU stays honest.
Are ads a marketplace fee?
Usually no. PPC, creators and boosts are demand costs. They still belong in the unit model. A fee preview that ignores ads will flatter the launch.
Can CrossKit show my live fee schedule?
No. Paste numbers from the destination platform. The calculator estimates profit from the lines you enter.
