What is a Shopify Handle?
A Shopify Handle is the stable URL slug that ties a product and its variant rows together in a CSV import and on the storefront path.
Handle is identity in the import
Shopify uses Handle to decide which rows are one product. Two variant rows with the same Handle become options on one page. Two products sharing a Handle collide. Blank Handles let Shopify invent a slug from the title, which may change next time.
It also appears in the URL
The storefront path typically includes the Handle. Changing it later can break bookmarks, ads and marketplaces that synced the old URL. Treat Handle like a SKU for the web path: set it once, keep it lowercase, use hyphens.
CSV hygiene
Put Handle on every variant row. Do not reuse a retired Handle for a new product if old links still matter. CrossKit CSV Formatter helps you see whether Handles are blank or duplicated before you import.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Handle the same as SKU?
No. SKU identifies a variant for inventory. Handle identifies the product page. A product can have many SKUs and one Handle.
Can I change Handle later?
You can, but old URLs may 404 unless you redirect. Prefer stability.
Does CrossKit create Handles in Shopify?
No. It helps you inspect the CSV. Shopify writes Handles on import if they are missing.
