Amazon Listing Title Optimization: Write Titles That Rank and Convert
Why the title is your cheapest ranking win
The title is the strongest on-page signal for Amazon's A9 search. A well-structured title lifts both rank and click-through — and it costs nothing but writing time. This is the core of Amazon listing title optimization.
The 200-character title formula
Amazon allows up to 200 characters. Use them in this order:
- Brand (first, exactly as registered)
- Primary keyword (the exact phrase shoppers search)
- Key attributes: quantity, material, size, color
- Secondary keywords: use case, audience, compatibility
Keyword placement that works
Put the primary keyword early
Front-load the exact-match term (e.g. "stainless steel water bottle"). Our Keyword Miner surfaces the high-intent phrases buyers actually type.
Don't keyword-stuff
Repeat a word once. Stacking synonyms reads as spam and can trigger suppression.
Capitalization & format rules
- Capitalize the first letter of each major word.
- No ALL-CAPS beyond the brand.
- Separate words with spaces, not underscores or symbols.
- One decimal place for sizes (e.g. "16 Oz").
Banned words that get titles suppressed
- Promotional claims: "Sale", "Best", "100% Quality", "Free Shipping".
- Off-platform language: "website", "email", social handles.
- Subjective fluff: "Hot", "New", "Awesome".
Example before / after
Weak: "Hot Sale New Water Bottle Best Gift Free Shipping 16oz"
Strong: "AquaPro Stainless Steel Water Bottle 16 Oz Insulated Leakproof for Gym and Hiking"
